Significance & Context

Mu'adh ibn Jabal (رضي الله عنه) narrated that the Prophet ﷺ took his hand one day and said: 'O Mu'adh, by Allah I love you.' The Prophet ﷺ then advised him: 'Do not leave reciting after every prayer: Allahumma a'inni...' This extraordinary introduction — expressing love before giving advice — shows the significance of this dua. It combines three ascending levels of devotion: dhikr (remembrance), shukr (gratitude), and husn al-ibadah (excellence in worship). It is sunnah to recite it as a du'a at the end of every salah before the final tasleem.
