The Declaration of Utter Destitution (Musa's Dua)

Quran: Surah Al-Qasas, 28:24

رَبِّ إِنِّي لِمَا أَنزَلْتَ إِلَيَّ مِنْ خَيْرٍ فَقِيرٌ

Transliteration

Rabbi inni lima anzalta ilayya min khairin faqir.

English Meaning

My Lord, indeed I am, for whatever good You would send down to me, in need.

হে আমার পালনকর্তা! আপনি আমার প্রতি যে অনুগ্রহই নাযিল করবেন, আমি তো তারই মুখাপেক্ষী।

Significance & Context

When Prophet Moses, Musa (AS), fled Egypt, arriving in Midian destitute and exhausted, his supplication was a masterclass in theological politeness. He did not explicitly demand food, shelter, or safety. Instead, he simply stated a profound ontological fact: he was faqir (absolutely bankrupt) of whatever khayr (goodness) the Divine chose to dispense.

رَبِّ هَبْ لِي حُكْمًا وَأَلْحِقْنِي بِالصَّالِحِينَ. وَاجْعَلْ لِي لِسَانَ صِدْقٍ فِي الْآَخِرِينَ. وَاجْعَلْنِي مِنْ وَرَثَةِ جَنَّةِ النَّعِيمِ

Rabbi hab li hukman wa alhiqni bissalihin. Waj'al li lisana sidqin fil akhirin. Waj'alni min warathati jannatin na'im.

My Lord! Grant me wisdom and join me with the righteous. Give me an honourable mention among later generations. And make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss.

Quran: Surah Ash-Shu'ara, 26:83-85

رَبَّنَا لَا تُزِغْ قُلُوبَنَا بَعْدَ إِذْ هَدَيْتَنَا وَهَبْ لَنَا مِنْ لَدُنْكَ رَحْمَةً إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْوَهَّابُ

Rabbana la tuzigh qulubana ba'da idh hadaytana wa hab lana min ladunka rahmah, innaka antal wahhab.

Our Lord! Do not let our hearts deviate after You have guided us. Grant us Your mercy. You are indeed the Giver of all bounties.
