Buraidah al-Aslami (RA) — Supplication via Absolute Unity

Jami' at-Tirmidhi 3475, Sunan Abi Dawud 1493

Transliteration

Allahumma inni as'aluka bi anni ashhadu annaka antallah, la ilaha illa ant, al-ahadus-samad, alladhi lam yalid wa lam yulad, wa lam yakun lahu kufuwan ahad.

English Meaning

O Allah, I ask You by my testifying that You are Allah; there is no deity except You, the One, the Self-Sufficient, who did not beget, nor was begotten, and to Whom there is no equivalent.

Significance & Context

Transmitted by Buraidah al-Aslami (RA), the Prophet ﷺ swore by the One in Whose Hand his soul is: 'He has most certainly supplicated Allah using His Greatest Name.' This dua is Surah Al-Ikhlas transformed into a living supplication. Its core is As-Samad — the absolutely self-sufficient Master whom all creation needs for their every moment, yet Who needs nothing from anyone. By invoking this attribute, the supplicant negates all worldly dependencies and taps directly into the Uncaused First Cause.
